Grivel Air Tech Racing Ice Axe
$137.99
The Air Tech Racing is the lightest forged steel ice axe in the world. The robust T-rated head is the same as used on Air Tech and Air Tech Evo but mated to a lighter, B-rated shaft. It is our experience that the mountains often put up more resistance than anticipated; the Air Tech Racing is for the climber that wants the lightest possible tool without sacrificing the strength and performance necessary to address unexpected challenges. The light alloy shaft features a gentle curve and is now is finished with a sharp, ChroMoly steel spike. Click on the "more images" link to see the new shaft, spike and graphics.
- construction: CroMo Steel, hot forged

Grivel Nepal S.A.
$89.99
The Nepal S.A. mates a standard Nepal head to a shaft that is slightly curved over its entire length. S.A. is shorthand for self-arrest and this axe was specifically designed to improve security while descending a snow slope -- when most falls occur -- and to arrest a slide more aggressively if the climber does fall. When a climber is descending, facing out, and holding the axe in the arrest position the shallow curve throughout the length of the shaft allows the axe to be driven in to a more secure position. Once placed, the curved shaft offers more holding power than a straight shaft; resistance is perpendicular to applied force so, as the drawing (follow the "More Images" link to image #3) shows, the geometry of a curved shaft is better than straight since the shaft’s final position has more snow between it and failure. That same curve gives the pick a more aggressive bite when the climber pulls outward on the lower part of the shaft during an actual self-arrest. The axe is B-rated and features a forged and welded, carbon steel head mated to light alloy shaft. It is delivered with the Long Leash.
- construction: carbon steel
- blade: hot forged, classic, negative, welded adze
- CE shaft resistance: 270 kg
- Weight: 480 g (58 cm), 500 g (66 cm), 530 g (74 cm)
- sizes: 58, 66, 74 cm
- insulated head: no

Grivel Nepal Light
$116.99
Nepal Light is entirely built from light alloy materials. The head and pick are hot-forged from a single piece of alloy then the stamped alloy adze is welded to it. The shaft resists 270kg when tested using UIAA/CE methods, and is finished with an asymmetrical spike. Nepal Light is made for ski touring, ski mountaineering competition, and classical mountaineering. Be aware that technical performance is traded away in favor of reduced weight. If you might have to use the axe on real ice, an Air Tech Racing, which is only five ounces heavier might be the better choice.
- construction: light alloy
- blade: hot forged, classic, negative, welded adze
- CE shaft resistance: 270 kg
- Weight: 280 g (48 cm), 304 g (53 cm), 314 g (58 cm), 336 g (66 cm)
- sizes: 48, 53, 58, 66
- insulated head: no

Grivel Air Tech Evolution ice axe
$169.99
The Air Tech Evo answers professional demands for a light, full-strength mountaineering axe with technical features: hot-forged ChroMoly steel head has T-rated strength and a 4mm-thick pick to easily penetrate hard ice. The curve adds 1.5cm of clearance to adapt to odd terrain features, and protects the knuckles from the ice when choked-up on the shaft. The T-rated (400kg) shaft is finished with a hot-forged steel spike that slices into hard snow. Air Tech Evo is available with the Long Leash or the Slider (a sliding pommel that supports the fingers when using the axe in piolet traction positions but does not compromise easy penetration when driving the shaft into firm snow).
- construction: CroMo Steel
- blade: hot forged, classic, positive
- CE shaft resistance: 400 kg
- Weight: 488 g (48 cm)j, 496 g (53 cm), 512 g (58 cm), 533 c (66 cm)
- sizes: 48, 53, 58, 66
- insulated head: no

Grivel X Monster Ice Axe
$124.99
Monster upset the accepted rules about climbing equipment in 2004-2005. Although a bit extreme the Monster concept was appropriate to the era and accepted by the climbing community. That said, Monster is specifically adept on overhanging terrain, therefore not for everyone. Now Monster is complemented by the X Monster, which is a less radical tool featuring a slightly straighter shaft and a grip better suited to vertical and less steep terrain. X Monster’s pick is thinner to improve penetration and make it less destructive to fragile ice features. It is also shorter but due to narrow profile of the shaft (slightly thicker than the pick) the whole head of the tool may slice between icicles or into narrow cracks to reach deep anchor points. Where you expect to see an adze you’ll find a small hammer shaped like a curved nut – don’t expect too much but it will drive a pin or torque in a crack better than nothing. X Monster’s shaft is the same flexible spring steel as that of Monster, which allows those accustomed to it to manipulate the tool differently than one with a totally rigid shaft. This flexibility is generally beneficial, rarely a disadvantage. A hole in the shaft will take a releasable leash and the shaft is finished with a small but effective tooth to allow traction in the piolet canne position. CE certification as a category 2 PPI.
