The Plunge. The genuine article and local folklore. Virtually the gravitational pit of local wandering for nearly a century. Bisected neatly by the Minnechaduza Creek and nestled on the North edge of Nebraska's favorite outdoor recreation destination - Valentine, Nebraska. And besides all that, it makes for a great run (and walk)!

You could ride this route. But then, you'd miss the old concrete generator house, the city sewage treatment facility (grinding off to your left), the rifle range on your right, the strange kids hanging out in the park - well, maybe you'll want to ride it....(fast)...

You and a couple of other fiberous types will run (or walk)either 6 or 10 kilometers of surface-mix (asphalt, concrete, dirt road, and single-track) that will make a memorable outing for anyone brave enough to show up.

No, you mean the other who - like who is behind this gig? The Minnechaduza Foundation, a public charity 501(c)3 based in Valentine, seeks to promote health among Great Plains dwellers. Our most important initiaves focus on child abuse prevention, services to abused children, and elder fall reduction. 2006 has been a spectacular year for these initiatives. The Foundation sponsors events that demonstrate the upper range of health, such as fitness and recreational runs and walks, as a platform for both awareness and inspiration. The Plunge Run is an opportunity for both. The Foundation also supports scientific investigation into health problems that prevail here in the Plains, as well as supporting cultural and historical diversity of peoples that inhabit this region. Who should start this run? and Who will finish it?
Starters: should be experienced runners with a good endurance base (OR beginning runners with sick sense of what's fun). The route is technical in spots
which may bring beginners to their knees (and chins)(and life affirmation).
Finishers: easily recognized: smelly, dirty, thirsty, but with a big dusty smile!
