The Long leash is suitable for ice axes that have an attachment hole in the head. It works best if the hole is aligned with the shaft of the axe although it may be secured through a hole in the pick as well. It is a simple leash designed to maintain control of the axe and in a pinch it can provide enough support for steep climbing in the piolet traction position. The Long leash is delivered standard on many Grivel general mountaineering axes.
